Walgreens is reviewing its media planning and buying business, according to sources.
The retailer typically spends more than $200 million in media annually, according to Nielsen.
Managing the search process is R3:JLB in Chicago.
The incumbent, Publicis Groupe's Starcom, has been invited to defend, sources said.
The media search comes a year after Walgreens reviewed its creative account. After last year's search, GSD&M emerged as the brand's new lead creative agency.
The brand's current campaign uses the tagline, "At the corner of happy and healthy."
R3:JLB declined to comment and Walgreens could not immediately be reached.
