Christopher Fay is the new president of McCann Erickson’s Detroit office, joining the Interpublic agency from the Leo Burnett Group in Taiwan were he was managing partner.

Fay succeeds Joe Garcia, who was named global managing director of Commonwealth, the new joint venture created in March by McCann and Goodby Silverstein & Partners to handle global creative responsibilities for General Motors’ Chevrolet brand.

In addition to his McCann tenure, Fay brings to his new role work experience in Asia and prior automotive account handling. “Chris is ideal for this post,” said McCann North America president Hank Summy, who added that Fay “understands both the critical Asian market and the U.S. marketplace”.

Before Leo Burnett in Taiwan, Fay served as CEO of Publicis Groupe corporate sibling Saatchi & Saatchi Taiwan. He previously worked at I&S BBDO in Japan and was COO of McCann Taiwan. Fay also held posts with McCann in Japan and in New York.

During his career, Fay has worked on accounts like Nestlé, General Motors, Coca-Cola, Citibank, Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, Toyota, Daimler Chrysler and Pfizer.
