After years of sharing a publisher with sister title Hamptons magazine, Niche Media’s glitzy lifestyle mag Gotham is getting its own publisher in David Katz, a Condé Nast veteran. Debra Halpert, the former joint publisher of Hamptons and Gotham, will continue to publish Hamptons.
Niche president and COO Katherine Nicholls said increased demand from Hamptons advertisers made it necessary to split Halpert's publishing duties. “The seasonality of the Hamptons market is shrinking, and it is quickly becoming a year-round, primary market,” said Nicholls.
Katz spent seven years as the associate publisher of Condé Nast's Brides’ 16 regional editions before going to Bonnier, where he most recently was the digital sales manager for Field & Stream and Outdoor Life. Katz said his goals at Gotham will be to expand the magazine’s mobile and Web presence and increase awareness for the 65,000-circ magazine. “It’s important that we’re in all the right places and get our magazine into the right hands,” he said.
