Crispin Porter + Bogusky has filled a top creative role with Tom Markham, a veteran of Lowe who has worked primarily on Unilever.

At Crispin, Markham has become the digital creative director. He’ll work on most accounts—including Microsoft and Kraft Foods—and report to chief creative officer Jeff Benjamin.

Markham, who’ll be based at the shop’s Boulder, Colo., office, fills a vacancy left by the August exit of Matt O’Rourke, who’s now at Wieden + Kennedy. Benjamin himself also once held this job.

At Lowe, Markham most recently was a global digital cd in New York, where he was part of a “flying squad” that worked on key accounts, including Unilever brands like Knorr, Lynx, and Magnum. He assumed that role in late 2009.

Before that, Markham was the digital creative chief at Lowe’s office in Sydney, Australia. He joined Lowe in 2004, as an interactive cd at the shop’s Auckland, New Zealand office. His other brand experience includes Vodafone and MTV.

Markham’s move to Boulder was triggered in part by the August exit of his boss at Lowe: global CCO Matthew Bull, who left to start his own shop. “That was the tipping point for me,” said Markham, a native New Zealander who has a bachelor’s degree in computer science.

Crispin represented an opportunity for Markham to be more hands-on with the work—in short to create more ads and manage others less, though that’s still part of his new job. He told Adweek he has long been a fan of the shop’s work on brands such as Domino’s, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, and Burger King.

“I’ve always been really inspired by the work that Crispin does,” said Markham, 36. “It’s never boring.”
