The Martin Agency laid off 38 people—6 percent of its workforce—today. Thirty-five positions were eliminated at the agency’s Richmond, Va., headquarters and three people were cut from its New York City offices.
A rep at the Interpublic shop said the cuts are due to a combination of reasons including "decreases in projected spending among some of our clients and an internal realignment of resources to more closely match our evolving client needs."
In 2009, The Martin Agency enjoyed an aggressive new business run, adding clients like Pizza Hut, Expedia, Sun Life Financial, the United States Tennis Association, Microsoft retail, ChapStick and Manpower. The agency hired 145 people over the last 18 months.
