Bill Kolb, chief of McCann Worldgroup’s MRM global digital and direct agency, has been appointed to the new position of chairman, CEO of Worldgroup’s General Motors account, one of the Interpublic company’s largest and oldest clients.
In that role, Kolb is the business lead across communications platforms and will have oversight of the team at Commonwealth, the Worldgroup agency handling the global Chevrolet account. Kolb also assumes oversight of Worldgroup’s Detroit operations, making sure on-the-ground resources at MRM, McCann Erickson and Commonwealth are coordinated.
With Kolb’s move to his new Worldgroup role, day-to-day operations at MRM will be jointly managed by the agency’s worldwide president Michael Mclaren and president of commerce Hank Summy, both of whom were named to those roles last month. Kolb will continue to have ties with MRM as chairman.
At MRM Kolb established and grew the agency’s dedicated Detroit office in addition to his global CEO role. MRM has become one of Worldgroup’s major GM agencies collaborating with McCann Erickson and Commonwealth as well as handling its own digital, analytics and production assignments around the world.
Kolb was named CEO of MRM Worldwide in July 2011, having served as COO since 2006. He joined Worldgroup in 2001 as chief of an expanded international retail marketing group, after serving as a president of a consultancy where he managed development of integrated global in-store marketing programs. In 2002 he was promoted to COO of Worldgroup’s events and sponsorships arm, Momentum Worldwide, where he was named president a year later. In 2004, he added responsibilities as CFO, COO of MRM before moving to a dedicated MRM role in 2006.
