The Digital Advertising Alliance's Peter Kosmala is jumping to the American Association of Advertising Agencies as senior vp of government relations, beginning March 1. Kosmala's move comes less than a year after he joined the online ad industry's self-regulatory organization as its first managing director.

Kosmala succeeds Linda Dove, who is retiring.

As part of the 4As' government relations team, Kosmala will be the ad agency organization's principal representative at federal regulatory agencies such as the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Commerce (which recently released its privacy green paper), as well as 50 state governments. He reports to Dick O'Brien, the 4As' executive vp of government relations.

"With all the regulatory issues our industry faces as well as the changing political climate with the upcoming elections, we need to have someone with Peter's insight and relationships best advocating for our members and the advertising community overall," said Nancy Hill, president and CEO of the 4As, in a statement.

Kosmala bring to the 4As a strong track record in privacy issues, perhaps the biggest challenge facing the digital advertising community. As managing director of the DAA, of which the 4As is one of several association members, he helped grow the online ad industry's self-regulatory program and launched a consumer awareness brand campaign.

Prior to the DAA, Kosmala was assistant director of the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
