A growth spurt has prompted Roth Partners—a brand consultancy that pulls together outside talent to tackle marketing briefs—to add a managing partner.
Filling the role is Jon Renner, a former managing director at Walton Isaacson in New York and onetime colleague of Roth founder Rick Roth at Ogilvy & Mather. In his new job, Renner reports to Roth.
The position is new and designed to manage existing assignments from the likes of The Reader’s Digest Association and True Citrus. In addition, Renner, 48, will help pitch new business. “He’ll have a broad remit,” Roth said.
Founded in 2010, Roth Partners pitches itself as a low-overhead, media-neutral alternative to bigger, more established shops. The firm is run by executives with global agency experience, including Roth—a former account leader at Ogilvy and CEO of OgilvyAction—and business development chief Patrick Keyes, who used to work in new business at the same shop.
For each assignment, Roth’s principals hatch develop strategies and then tap specialists in strategy, creative, design and media to bring them to life. The shop’s first client was Unilever, for which it developed a cross-brand initiative that the company is now testing. In the coming weeks, Roth is expected to unveil new assignments from a technology company and an online retailer.
