GroupM has expanded its leadership team with a new senior management position. On Thursday, WPP's media arm announced that it had named Dominic Proctor president of GroupM.

Proctor has a long history with GroupM. In 1997, he launched Mindshare Worldwide, WPP's first media agency, and has served as the agency's longtime CEO. Proctor began his career in advertising over 30 years ago. By 1989, he had been named media director at JWT and, three years later, he rose to the role of the company's chief executive.

The new position for Proctor means a rise in the ranks for Nick Emery, Mindshare's London-based chief strategy officer who will succeed Proctor as Mindshare Worldwide's CEO. The reorganization will also place Irwin Gotlieb, GroupM's global CEO, in the role of GroupM chairman.

“These changes represent a logical and important progression for us, and we’re confident that our clients and staff will prosper as a consequence,” Gotlieb said in a statement. “I’m especially pleased that Dominic, who has been so instrumental in the long-term success of Mindshare, has agreed to move into this new and important role in GroupM and concentrate on the global management of our company.”
